Indonesian With Pak Bird

Selamat datang! (Welcome)

In Terms 2 and 3 we have been busy learning all about Indonesian language and culture.  Our main focus areas, across all Stages, have been on Indonesian foods, native animals, celebrations and family life.

What's been happening in Jullum and Yugoori?

  • We have learned about the tropical fruits found throughout Indonesia. The students made tusuk buah (fruit skewer)

  • The children are becoming more familiar counting numbers from 1 to 10 in Indonesian. The use of IWB and guitar has proven to be an engaging way to learn.

What's been happening in Wajung and Junbung?

  • The children have also been learning about the tropical fruits found throughout Indonesia. We made tusuk buah (fruit skewer). They were delicious. Maybe your child could show you how to make them.

  • We have been looking at Indonesian culture, customs, traditions and entertainment. We are trying our hand at making our own topeng (mask). Topengs are used as a prop to tell stories. We will keep you updated with some photos of the finished product as soon as we get them finished!

What's been happening in Gargoon?

  • Gargoon have been extremely busy learning about Indonesian animals, festivals and food.
  • We cooked pisang goreng (fried banana) and it turned out better than we expected. The students were very impressed with their efforts. Maybe you could ask your child to make pisang goreng as a special treat for your family.

  • We are currently researching the ancient Indonesian art of shadow play or Wayang Kulit. Wayang Kulit is a unique combination of ritual, lesson and entertainment. We are planning to design and create our very own Wayang Kulit this term.

Across all stages our Indonesian classes have been very busy. Class discussions, research, music and hands-on activities are incorporated into the lessons to make the lessons engaging and interesting.
