Faces from the Future
18th Les Peterkin Portrait Prize
The Macnaughton Focus Gallery and Peter and Judy Budd Foyer
Fast forward in time to a new future and take a glance at what humans look like in this different world. In 2014, local primary school students were asked to imagine traveling 500 years into the future to record the faces of the human population. Asked to consider how the population has adapted to living in a new environment, these young artists have used a variety of media to create imaginative and expressive portraits.
Ranging from the delightful paintings of kindergarten students to detailed illustrations by children in upper primary classes, Faces from the Future is a wall display of 40 framed prize winning works with another 200 outstanding works in display folders. This increasingly popular prize is named after artist and art teacher Mr Les Peterkin and is a celebration of the artistic talent of local primary school students, giving a glimpse into how young people see the world.
